This study gives an overview of criteria internationally used within the framework of a road safety audit. These criteria must be seen as items to be considered in a qualitative assessment of the safety on the scale level of roads. Within the road safety audit procedure, such an overview of these items is regarded as a helpful tool rather than a necessary condition. In this study, internationally used checklists are analysed and combined. An overview of possible criteria to be used is presented as a result of this study. If and how these are to be implemented in Flemish context, however, is a policy decision and not the objective of this study.
